TRANSCRIPT

This is “The No BS Coaching Advice Podcast, Episode 168. I’m your host Jeff Altman,The Big Game Hunter.. Welcome. Weekly, I like to spend a little bit of time talking with you about some elements of life, the universe and everything. And clearly the last week has been the week of coronavirus, COVID-19 and the panic and the fear that’s been set into the US, I suspect, it’s in other parts of the world, as well.

But for now, I live in the US and I see it all over the place. I just simply say folks, by now you know what to do. You know what to do. You know what not to do. Fear often sets in when are . . . we become more heightened and aware of a problem and we’re not quite sure what to do about it. At this point, you know what to do. You know you’re not going to fist bump. You’re not going to shake hands. You don’t want to get within such proximity of people that the virus has a chance to transmit. you know not to touch your face. You own hand sanitizer or know how to make it.

I’ll just simply say, folks, do what you have to do and that can apply elsewhere in your life, as well. Not quite sure what to do? Sheet the information resources to do what you need to do, and then just go out and do it.

So I was in Florida last week visiting my brother and he has a very severe visual impairment. He’s not blind, but he’s pretty damn close. And watching him, as a single man, operate was really very interesting. He’s got a home. And that’s the good news. He has services around him. Like he has a housekeeper who comes in periodically to help. She helps pay his bills, helps take him to the store, because he can’t drive and he’s in Florida and you have to drive and, yeah, over the weekend, I took him places. But, no matter, this is about supports, because he’s someone who demonstrates how, if you ask for help, you can get help.

For example, He dates from time to time. Suffice it to say, he’s not driving a woman anywhere. She has to take them somewhere. She has to provide assistance to them with ordering. So, for example, you know, he tries to look at a menu in advance since he can’t really see it in the restaurant and he had some help with that.

Where could you be getting help? Because I know you don’t know everything about everything. Where can you get some help, and not have to figure it out? Using him as a model, and he’s a really good example of this, the technology is there that could help him. After all, if you’ve got an iPhone, if you’ve got an iPad, you’ve got something that you can make the device larger so you can see the print. TV? He’s not really watching TV. More listening, than watching.

Where can you get some support in your life? From whom can you ask for guidance so that you’re not always the one who has to have the answers. You are not measured by how good your answers are. You will be measured by your willingness to engage, to support, to allow yourself to be supported so you don’t make dumb mistakes, to hurt yourself and hurt.

SEGMENT 2. So I was in Florida last week visiting my brother. And he has a very severe visual impairment. He’s not blind, but he’s pretty damn close. Where can you get some support in your life from home? Can you ask for guidance so that you’re not always the one who has to have the answers. You are not measured by how good your answers are. You will be measured by your willingness to engage, to support and to allow yourself to be supported so you don’t make dumb mistakes that hurt yourself and hurt others.

So often, we find ourselves in situations, unable to take action. And I hope the two previous segments help you see that your fears are warranted. But once you have information you can take action. And if you remain stuck, what you’re able to do is get support. And thus I’ll remind you, folks, whether it’s me or someone else, there are coaches out there who can help you. There are friends of yours who love you and will help. There’s family that can help. But no matter who it is, the idea is not to remain stuck in patterns where you get hurt.

A lifetime is not a long time, I say, and I’ll just remind you you need to get some help..
