No B.S. Coaching Advice

Taking Your Foot Off the Gas | Career Angles

You may not think you are in competition with someone or some organization, yet you are.

You may get an early lead on them, but they’re going to try and defeat you.

For those of you who are old enough to remember, there were times when Microsoft rule tech, and now they don’t. They are important but they don’t rule the landscape.

Before them, I think back to the days of AOL and how we all receive those little discs when our computers were slower than what’s in our iPhone. Dialing into a walled garden of options curated by AOL was how we got online in The Stone Ages. Today it’s a joke.

See what I mean?

We may not see who the winner is but someone is always out there trying to win and become the dominant player in the field.

It’s true in business, too, just like it is in sports. There is one thing about the New England Patriots— they know that someone is always out there trying to keep them from making the Super Bowl and winning. They compete with themselves to get better. They know if they take their foot off the gas pedal, they will be beaten.

Very few firms do because there coaching demands the best from them. If they don’t think you’re going to be good enough at the right price, they’ll send you away.

When you lower your standards you open yourself up to mediocrity.

If mediocre is good enough for you, don’t complain when your office shuts down, your division is cut back on or your business closes because someone else didn’t take their foot off the gas and was determined to win.
