No B.S. Coaching Advice

The Marathon | Career Angles

I ran the New York marathon and finished.

I trained for more than a year to do that.

I told people I was going to run it. They were excited for me.

My friend, Frank, decided to do it, too, so is meet at Central Park in New York once a week to do a long run. At the beginning, it might be 6 miles. As we approached race day, it was 20.

All my friends who are excited for me were silent as I trained. As I got closer to race day, many of them would start to ask, “are you running the marathon?” They will become excited again.

Many of you will take on work that seems exciting at the beginning.

Some will feel envy the fact you got the assignment and they didn’t.

They will go away and tell themselves stories about the glory of doing what you’re doing and they grew silent as you work your way through the situation.

They will never know or appreciate the hell you went through to get it done.

That’s okay.

The glory is in the perseverance.

You will take that accomplishment with you and that perseverance with you forever.
