I like sharing suggestions for you to play with about being more effective at work. Here’s an easy suggestion.
Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I coach people and organizations to be more effective. I used to work in Executive Search but I was always more complicated than that. I understand how job hunting works, hiring works, and also understand how to be more effective in the workplace because I spent a lot of time dissecting myself in the course of doing this.
This is one of my “Career Angles” videos that I think will be helpful to you. It’s designed to help you be more productive faster each day. Now, I’m not suggesting that what you should be doing is running around like a chicken with your head cut off. I’m being ridiculous or just making yourself nuts. I just thought we’d give you three simple things that you can do to be more effective.
Number one is to try and get three things done before nooon. Just trying to get a couple things and complete them before the middle part of the day so, this way, you feel a sense of accomplishment. You can check things off your list of tasks that you need to have done. You can go to lunch and have a decent time knowing that you got some stuff done, right?
Also, as you set up this concept of getting three things done by noon, you try and look for similar things that you can do concurrently. And asa result, you’re going to find that the repetition makes it go faster.
The last thing is to try and do things for speed. Break the project into components. Take on the longer parts of them at the beginning and make sure that each part after that is shorter. We have more energy to tackle the bigger stuff first if we work on the small, easy stuff and get rid of it quickly. We’re building up and getting frustrated and it feels like . . . This is how it is for me . . . it feels like it’s going to go on forever because I’m starting with the easy to the big. Start with the big and go to the easy.
Again, look for sequences of things.
