No B.S. Coaching Advice

Unprepared | Career Angles

I heard someone say that being unprepared doesn’t make it a black swan event (A black swan is an unpredictable event that is beyond what is normally expected of a situation and has potentially severe consequences. Black swan events are characterized by their extreme rarity, their severe impact, and the widespread insistence they were obvious in hindsight).

They just are convinced that you didn’t prepare for.

I’m not talking about pandemics, although government officials at all levels and access to information about their stated preparedness for such events.

I’m speaking about events at work or someone “missed” something that should’ve been factored into the decision-making process to recognize or mitigate risk.

Preparation allows you to understand what might be coming in a zero ability to improvise.

the ability to improvise needs to be rewarded, not criticized.

Dutiful compliance results in absolute compliance.

Thinking and reacting is not valued.

Post-World War II Germans claim to be “just following orders” as they murdered millions of their fellow citizens.

You have been trained to be good Germans and follow orders.

Remember, think, feel, notice, pay attention.
